Bekka speaks (children now 10, 12)

‘Finding ourselves unexpectedly pregnant all we used as a guide (plus seeing Heather) was her book.

As our  pregnancy progressed, and B day got closer I found whenever I had a concern – like 2am

in the morning – I  would go to these words of wisdom. I would NOT be told not to worry and see my doctor in the morning – but what to do and how and why what was happening had.

Although having the resources to go fully private – we knew we wanted a low tech, easy outcome and made this happen.

We had the most wonderful birth – we were both so proud of ourselves. With the help of our special new best friend – my doula, we had just bought our beautiful little baby into the world – by ourselves in the bath room. As we sat on the floor with our baby resting against my breast in the minutes after he was born, all we could do was look at him, then each other – it was probably 10 minutes before we thought to look to see whether he was a boy or girl. The candles were still flickering and the room was so quiet when I looked down. When I announced gently to John that we had a boy, I think he nearly burst with pride’.

The new dad-to-be had no idea that the doula and new mum-to-be had hatched the plan to just stay at home. He was over the moon with the second as both births were text book perfect. Their friends/family and all who hear this are shocked – carrying the belief that traveling out of home and into a huge (foreign) work place is somehow best.

Nature does it so well when mum is supported to be herself!
